What's Cookin' in the Parsonage?

It is such a joy to be a part of the 30's Sunday School class at our church (my husband teaches, so we get to join their youth!). Why is it such a joy? Well...These men have wives that are great cooks!

They are such servants. When we have a dinner at church clean-up is a snap because everyone pitches in to help!

They have such cute children! They are young enough to know how to have fun!

They are also hungry for the Word of God and want to see it applied in every area of their lives.

We had a class dinner at church yesterday and our menu was a baked potato bar with all the trimmings and toppings you could want. We finished with all sorts of delicious desserts. Mmmmmmm!

My contribution to the dinner was 45 baked potatoes. Instead of wrapping my potatoes in foil I pierce them with a knife, then rub them with olive oil and coarse salt (you can add pepper too, if you like). It makes the skin crispy and so good you want to eat the whole potato. I put them on four baking sheets so they weren't touching. I then set the oven timer to bake at 400 degrees for an hour and 15 minutes.

Some of the toppings that others brought were:

  • chili
  • sour cream
  • shredded cheeses
  • nacho cheese sauce
  • salsa
  • chives
  • taco meat

This kind of dinner would work well for guests at home too. Bake the potatoes (not too far ahead of time), then set out a counter-full of toppings. Add a salad and dessert and voila!

Have you attended a group dinner recently? What was served?

With love,
